Friday: Dinner and a movie

Kick off your weekend with a world-class pie from Regina Pizzeria in Boston’s North End. Regina’s dates back to 1926 and holds bragging rights as Beantown’s oldest pizzeria. Try the Giambottta pizza, a pie topped with pepperoni, sausage, salami, mushrooms, peppers, onions, fresh basil and mozzarella cheese, as well as anchovies upon request.

The pizzeria’s 95-year-old crust recipe is a well-guarded secret. Loyal customers line up around the block, but don’t worry — the staff keeps things moving. Of course, you can also order delivery to your Blueground home if you’d rather not stand in line.

Once your appetite is sated, settle in for a movie night at your apartment. The 1995 adaptation of Fever Pitch starring Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon makes for a great introduction to Boston. Whether you’re a rom-com aficionado or a sports lover, you’ll come away with a real appreciation for your new hometown. The movie’s many scenes at Beantown’s beloved Fenway Park that will help you understand why Bostonions love the Red Sox so much.

Saturday: Art worth stealing

A visit to Boston’s world-famous Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum will make you forget all about the ups and downs of the workweek behind you. Founded in 1899 by the delightfully eccentric (not to mention ahead of her time) Mrs. Gardner, the museum has an impressive collection of artworks from the Americas, Asia, and Europe.

The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum was famously robbed in 1990. In all, 13 artworks valued at $500 million were stolen. The unsolved crime was the subject of the recent Netflix documentary This Is a Robbery: The World’s Biggest Art Heist.

You will need to wear a mask while you’re in the museum, even if you have already been vaccinated.

Sunday: Boston history tour

Boston is one of the most historic cities in the US, where visitors can see the ship that was the site of the Boston Tea Party or Paul Revere’s former home on North Street. (For even more amazing things to do in your new city, check out our guide to the best things about living in Boston.)

Head to Boston Common, a public park that dates back to the 17th century and played a critical role in the development of Boston as a city. During the Revolutionary War soldiers wintered in the fields that now comprise this popular greenspace, and it was also used as a gathering place and common pasture in the peaceful decades that followed. Today, Boston Common is a great place to lounge on the banks of Frog Pond or play baseball or tennis with a friend or two.

After you’ve spent plenty of time out in the park, pick up a Boston cream pie from Parker’s Restaurant. This venerable establishment dates back to the 19th century and is considered the best place to find Boston’s signature dessert. (Parker’s Restaurant also won the Best Chowder Award at the 2019 Boston Chowderfest, if pie is not your go-to sweet treat.) A full-sized Boston cream pie measures 8 inches in diameter and can serve 10 to 12 people.
