All of our hand-selected homes with flexible leases are located in areas with plenty to do and see, not to mention great shops and restaurants. There’s no shortage of adventures to be had in the city during the summer, but part of the fun of moving to a new place is venturing even further afield. Here are some of our favorite day trips from five Blueground cities.
Day Trips From Chicago
Chicago experiences 100 days of summer each year, but that doesn’t mean you have to spend them all in the city. If you love to hike, or just want to swap your view of the the city skyline for a glimpse of the prairie, take a day trip to Matthiessen State Park. This gorgeous park is located about a two hour drive from downtown Chicago, but feels like you’re a world away.
Rent a car from Getaround or Hertz and set your alarm for bright and early so you’ll have plenty of time to hike one of the park’s trails. If you’re lucky, you might even see some white-tailed deer pracing along the banks of the Vermillion River.
A Day Away From London
Part of the magic of living in London is that you can get away to other parts of the United Kingdom so easily. Bath, which is arguably Britain’s most beautiful city, makes for an excellent day trip. You can hop on a train at Paddington Station and arrive in Bath 90 minutes later!
Planning a getaway to beautiful Bath dates back to the days of the Roman Empire. In fact, the sprawling Roman baths complex remains one of the city’s most scenic attractions. (Bath is also the setting for Jane Austen’s novel Northanger Abbey.) Tour the ruins and leave time to see the famous Pulteney Bridge before you board your train back to London.
Day Trips From New York City
There’s nowhere quite like the Big Apple, but during the summer months the city’s pavements can be sweltering. Taking a trip out of town for a day — or even a whole weekend — is a refreshing change of pace. We love Shelter Island, a beachy getaway just 90 minutes from Manhattan.
You can spend a lovely day hunting for shells, kayaking, or sailing the clear waters around the island. Join an organized tour by boat to take in even more of the island’s 8,000 acres of natural beauty.
If Shelter Island isn’t quite your speed, here are some other great getaways from NYC.
Day Trips From Seattle
The Emerald City is beautiful all summer long, but it would be a shame not to explore more of Washington State while you’re our guest. There are plenty of amazing day trips from Seattle. Our top pick — pun fully intended — is Mount Rainier, the highest mountain in the state.
Once you arrive at Mount Rainier National Park, you’ll find hiking trails at every level in addition to unbeatable views. You’ll need to rent a car for the 60-mile drive to the mountains, so check the Blueground app for deals and discounts from Getaround and Hertz.
Day Trips From Washington DC
Life slows down just a little bit in the nation’s capital during July and August. Make the most of your summer with a trip out of town. There are some fabulous places to go hiking near Washington, DC, including Shenandoah National Park. This vast national park is just 75 miles from the city.
Spend the day admiring the scenery along the Whiteoak Canyon Trail or take a short but challenging hike to Dark Hollow Falls. The park has almost 200,000 acres of protected lands to explore.
We hope these day trip suggestions will inspire our guests to make the most of their new homes this summer!
